Exploring the path of Punta Campanella reveals a breathtaking spectacle that opens up to the splendid view of Capri.

Punta Campanella is a charming place located on the Sorrento Peninsula in southern Italy. This rocky promontory, which separates the Gulf of Naples from the Gulf of Salerno, offers breathtaking views and a rich history that dates back to antiquity. Its cliffs overlooking the sea provide a spectacular view of the island of Capri and the Amalfi Coast, offering unforgettable emotions to anyone who has the privilege of exploring its path.

The name “Punta Campanella” derives from the presence of a bell placed on the promontory where the Tower of Minerva still stands, which once signaled the approach of boats to the dangerous stretch of sea that separates Capri from the mainland. In addition to its natural beauty, Punta Campanella is also a place rich in myths and legends. According to Greek mythology, this is where the temple of the goddess Athena was located, where Odysseus encountered the sirens during his journey to Ithaca. A medieval story tells of how the Saracens, after plundering the church of Sant’Antonino abate in Sorrento, were surprised by a storm near Punta Campanella, where their ship sank. It is said that every year, on Valentine’s Day, the stolen bell, from which the promontory takes its name, rings from the depths of the sea.

The path to Punta Campanella begins at the square of Termini, one of the districts of Sorrento. Along the way, you will follow road signs that will guide you in the right direction to reach your desired destination. Initially, the path winds along an asphalt road, which gradually becomes less easy as you approach the goal. Along the approximately 8 km route, you can admire breathtaking views and the untouched nature of the area. On the other side of the promontory, we recommend visiting another path with breathtaking views: the bay of Ieranto.
